Ewenny Priory Doesn’t Know What it Wants to be Yet – Age 880

We forgot to ask what it wanted to be when it finally grew up, but Ewenny has been many things over the years.
It was founded in 1114, and built by the normans in a Romanesque style as an extension of Gloucester’s Benedictine Abbey.

For some reason, Ewenny was built with defensive properties. It was converted into a private residence following the dissolution of the monasteries, and as such the church part of the priory is still open to services, but everything else is unfortunately off-limits to the public.
